Opelousas - Funeral services for Yola Richard Buchanan will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA at 10:00 a.m. The Very Monsignor Keith DeRouen will conduct the funeral services. Burial will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ms. Buchanan, age 91, a lifetime resident of Opelousas, LA died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Opelousas General Health System. She was born on January 10, 1924.

She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Her career was spent in the insurance field. Sis, as she was known by her family, enjoyed cooking, gardening and watching LSU and Saints football. She loved spending time with her family, shopping, enjoyed going to the casino and a good cold beer. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Versie Richard, nieces and nephews, Chuck Richard and wife, Lise; Ronnie Richard and wife, Janet; Al Richard and wife, Diedre; Steve Richard and companion, Cynthia; Cheryl Richard Schlomer and husband, Edward; David Richard and wife, Rhonda; Kenny Reed and wife, Bertha; Dickie Reed and wife, Suzanne; Patsy Reed Fontenot and husband, Bill; Rob Reed and wife, Alisha; Larry Fadaol and wife, Amy; Karen Fadaol Fontenot and Donna Fadaol Earley. She is also survived by 24 great-nieces and nephews and 25 great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonce and Agnes Carriere Richard; her brothers, Charles Richard and wife, Jackie and Aaron Richard; sisters, Francis Richard Reed and husband, Burke and Dorothy Richard Fadaol and husband, Sam.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday by Deacon Sammy Diesi.
