Withness Meche

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Withness Joseph Meche, age 86, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on, Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, La. The Reverend James Nguyen and Reverend Joseph Padinjarepeedika will be the celebrant of the Mass.

Mr. Meche, who was a resident of Melville, La., died at 3:16 a.m. on Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Withness was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church in Melville, La. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. He also taught agriculture in the St. Landry Parish school system for 30 years. After retiring, he worked as superintendent for 18 years for the City of Melville.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Julia Johnson Meche of Melville, La. his sons, Dwain G. Meche and wife, Joyce Sanders Meche, of Covington, La. Brandt J. Meche and wife, Lisa Disedare Meche, of Baton Rouge, La. his daughters, Lewana Meche Goudeau and husband, Felix Goudeau, of Lafayette, La. Janis Meche Miller of Opelousas, La. and Debra Meche Soileau and husband, Terry Soileau, of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Jude Meche, Christopher Meche, Danielle Meche, Jonathan Sanders, Corey Meche, Julia Meche, Brigette Goudeau, Talia Miller, Renee Webster, Shelbie Miller, Heather Cormier and 5 greatgrandchildren, Kylen Sanders, Kera Sanders, Kaleb Sanders, Kalan Sanders and Zaida Webster.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Honora Mouton Meche his brothers, Lawrence Meche, Emile Meche, Daniel Meche, Early Meche, Clarence Meche and his sister, Eleanor M. Fontenot.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
