Opelousas It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Wilson Fontenot, 89, announces his peaceful passing surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, November 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington with Father James Brady as the celebrant.
Wilson was a devoted Catholic and his Christian values were present in every aspect of his life. He was an automobile mechanic by trade and worked at Hampton Reed Auto Shop in Ville Platte for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, baking his famous pineapplecoconut cake, and having Sunday lunch with his family. He has left those who knew him with warm memories to cherish including his wife of 16 years Elmie Thibodeaux Fontenot, four stepchildren Wilda DeVille and husband Vinice of Ville Platte, Wilson Thibodeaux and wife Bonnie of Church Point, Bert Herbison and husband Joey of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Sandy Richard and husband Michael of North Little Rock, Arkansas, two very special nephews Bobby Stevens and wife Jacintha of Garland and Johnny Stevens and wife Stephanie of Sunset, 10 step grandchildren, and 9 step greatgrandchildren.
He now rests in heaven with his first wife Mildred Stevens Fontenot, his parents Alcibiede and Rita Fontenot, and his brothers Murray, Nelson and Etell Fontenot.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 8:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be recited in his honor on Sunday evening at 6:30 PM.
