Wilmer E. Johnson

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at The First Baptist Church of Krotz Springs. Rev. Don Disotell will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wilmer Johnson was a native of Elba, LA, and a longtime resident of Krotz Springs.  He passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at his residence in Krotz Springs at the age of 84.  He was a pile driver and worked for several companies during his career.  He worked mainly on the river, L J Ortis Tugboat builder, Delta Tank, and several plants in Baton Rouge.  He enjoyed doing woodworking and welding projects as a pastime.  He previously enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, coon hunting, and fishing in his younger years.  He knitted and constructed his own hoop nets.  Wilmer was known for his beautiful vegetable garden in his yard.  His family was extremely important to him, and he cherished spending time with them.    He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son, Ethan "Poppa" Johnson (Jonalyn Beard Johnson) of Prairieville; and his daughter, Lisa Johnson Dufour (Cliff Dufour) of Baton Rouge; brother, Joseph Ray “JoJo” Johnson, Jr. of Prairieville; two sisters, Ella Mae Thellen of Prairieville; and Gurley Payton (Vernon) of Melville.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Blake Johnson (Heather), Amber Johnson (Caleb Dupre, Sr.), Hunter Dufour (Christine Dufour), and Seth Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Harley Duplechain, Caleb Dupre II, Gunnar Johnson and Paisley Dupre; and daughter-in-law, Janice Johnson of Krotz Springs.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Glory Juanita Devillier Johnson; son, Brian "Chris" Johnson; parents, Joseph Ray Johnson, Sr. and Eva Mae Dix Johnson; four brothers, Alton Johnson, Clevon Johnson, James Edward “Ed” Kimble, and Ross Jake Kimble; sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jim Thellen.
