Willis Fontenot

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Willis A. Fontenot at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will pray the rosary at 10:15 a.m. followed by a eulogy by Steve Dupuis, Jr. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Fontenot, age 94, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Opelousas General Health System.

Willis served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a Veteran of WWII. During the time he spent in WWII, he received the Bronze Star for heroism. Following the war's end, he became a private contractor and later retired from Jim Tatman's Mobile Home. He was a hardworking man of faith who loved his family and spent most Sundays cooking for them. He was a wonderful husband and daddy. He also loved the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Girlie Duplechin Fontenot, of Opelousas, LA; his sons, Wayne Fontenot and Laura Davis of Katy, TX; Kim Fontenot and fiancé, Patricia Boulet, of Lafayette, LA; his daughters, Sherry Hidalgo and husband, Richard, of Opelousas, LA; Laura Noel and husband, Ellis, of Opelousas, LA; Dianne Dempsey-Legnon and husband, Michael, of Lafayette, LA; Peggy Fontenot of Bayou Chicot, LA; his sister, Barbara Dutel of Sunset, LA and his very special "adopted" son, Steve Dupuis, Jr. and his family, of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and more in the future.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Altere and Ezore Fontenot; his brothers, Alphan Fontenot, Jesse Fontenot; his sisters, Hilda Trosclair, Wedna Dufore, Carrie Andrus, Eunice Fontenot and his son-in-law, James Wiley Dempsey.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Friday until time of service.
Pallbearers will be David Hidalgo, Lance Hidalgo, Blake Noel, Spencer Noel, Brady Noel, Adam Fontenot and Josh Fontenot.
