William "Bill" Robert

William "Bill" Robert passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, on April 10, 2024, in Opelousas, Louisiana. Born on November 26, 1930, in Lafayette, Louisiana, Bill lived a life full of love, dedication, and kindness.

Bill dedicated 28 years as a civil engineer assistant for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Following this chapter, he spent another 25 years of his life as a courier at Sandoz and Schiff, showcasing his strong work ethic and reliability. His commitment to his work was truly admirable and left a lasting impact on those around him.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill will be remembered for the beautiful memories he created with his loved ones. He had a special fondness for giving candy to his grandchildren and found joy in coaching little league. His selflessness knew no bounds, and his love for his family was unwavering.

In addition to his successful career and cherished family moments, Bill found solace in various hobbies and interests. From woodworking to dancing, traveling and watching sports.  He lived life to the fullest. He particularly enjoyed attending the annual Robert-Allen Christmas Party and the Pierre Robert Association meetings.  He was a previous member of the Lafayette Square Dancers community with his wife.

Bill proudly served in the United States Navy, embodying bravery and honor throughout his military service.

He is survived by his son, William "Bobby" Robert, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughters, Sheila Robert of Lafayette, Vickie Stevens and her husband, Kenny of Carencro; and Kim Chelette and her husband, Kenneth of Lafayette; 9 grandchildren: Rachel Voitier, K. C. Chelette, Erin Stout, Lauren Richard, Adam Richard, Meredith Barrows, Bradi Newman, Brie Parrott, and Brantley Lawrence; 13 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Keith Richard and wife, Linda of Opelousas. 

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ledoux; his daughter, Jan Richard; his parents, Frank and Wilda Robert; his 10 siblings, Wilda Wilson, Iris Hernandez, Lucille Chargois, Clara Stagg, FS Robert, Jr., John Robert, Armand Robert, Benjamin Robert, Samuel Robert and Jeanne Robert.

A visitation will be held at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church at noon before proceeding to Bellevue Memorial Park for burial.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Chelette, Kenny Stevens, Keith Richard, Adam Richard, David Voitier and K.C. Chelette.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Acadiana for the amazing care, as well as his caregivers, Mary Ellen, Cheryl, Janella, Joanne, Becky and Kayla. 

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Robert's memory to Hospice of Acadiana.

William "Bill" Robert's legacy of love, dedication to family, and selflessness will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
