Opelousas - Funeral services will be held for William Kaffie Baillio, age 100, at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Deacon Don Leger will conduct the funeral service. Following the service a masonic service will be conducted by Humble Cottage Masonic Lodge. Interment will be held at the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, August 9, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
Mr. Baillio, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on August 6, 2015 in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born on July 10, 1915 in Washington, LA. He graduated from Opelousas High School, received his Bachelor of Arts teaching degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and his M.E.D. and Plus Thirty at LSU. He did post graduate work at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Northwestern State, University of Tennessee, University of Tulsa, University of Texas and San Diego State. A veteran of World War II, he served at the San Diego Naval base where he taught chemistry and pharmacy to medical corpsmen preparing to go out to sea. He taught for 35 years in the St. Landry public school system. Following retirement, he taught for 11 years at Riverside Academy in Reserve, False River Academy in New Rhodes and Belmont Academy in Opelousas. A longtime resident of Opelousas, he moved to Baton Rouge in 2002. He was a member of Humble Cottage Masonic Lodge in Opelousas, Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge in Morrow, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Baton Rouge, Habibi Temple of Shiners' in Lake Charles, American Legion Post 0038 in Baton Rouge, American Legion Forty and Eight Voiture 1438, and Woodman of the World.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia and husband, John Hartgerink; Annette and husband, Harry Wallfisch; his son, Tom Baillio and wife, Sheila; his four grandchildren, Ben Wallfisch and wife, Alex Gajdeczka; Sara Wallfisch and husband, Jeff Lohr; Nicholas Baillio and Andre Baillio; four great-grandchildren; his niece, Sylvia Stelly Bollich and his first cousin Lucille Baillio.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Vivian LeBeau Baillio; his parents, Gus and Beryl Lacombe Baillio and his sister, Mary Emily Baillio Stelly.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Ollie Steele Burden Manor and St. Joseph Hospice for their care and support of our loved one.
