Wilda Ann Begnaud

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Wilda Ann Bourgeois Begnaud on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, La.  Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Bridget Church Cemetery.  Father Ted Broussard will celebrate the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Begnaud, Glenn Fruge, Alex Fruge, Ross Fruge, Cole Begnaud and Stephan Stanford.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wilda Ann Bourgeois Begnaud, age 83, on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the Calcutta House by Hospice of Acadiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Wilda grew up in the Lawtell, La. where she graduated from Lawtell High School.  She played and lettered in basketball and was an FFA (Future Farmers of America) queen.  She also was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for her family.  Wilda was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Dwayne Begnaud of Opelousas, La.; her daughter, Deborah Begnaud Fruge and husband, Glenn Fruge, of Lafayette, La.; her brother, Audrey Bourgeois of Naples, Florida and her sister, Bonnie B. Venable of Lawtell, La.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Alex Fruge (Angelica) of Arizona, Cole Begnaud (Madeline) of Connecticut, Ross Fruge (Cindy) of Alabama, Ashley Begnaud of Texas and her great-grandchildren, Asher and Allie Fruge of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Begnaud; her parents, Carlton and Isaure Pitre Bourgeois; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Bourgeois, her brother-in-law, John Joffery Venable and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steffon and Emma Smith Begnaud.

Visiting will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening.  The funeral home will reopen on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Heart Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and the Calcutta House of Hospice of Acadiana for the care they gave to Wilda.
