Opelousas – Funeral services for Warren Thomas Ulmer affectionately known as “Buck” will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. Pastor Joel Murrah will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Iatt Baptist Cemetery in Verda, Louisiana at 3:00 p.m.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Opelousas on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m.
Warren passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the age of 85.
He was a native of New Verda, Louisiana and current resident of Opelousas, Louisiana. He also lived in Seymour, Indiana for several years where he was an active member of the First Baptist Church. Warren served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post Louisiana #0045 of Opelousas. He worked as a welder for many years and did maintenance/loss prevention work for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center. Warren was very active as an alumnus of Verda High School. He loved visiting with his neighbors, hunting, fishing, planting and tending to his vegetable garden. Warren, being a man of faith, greatly enjoyed spending time with his church family and cherished time spent with his own family.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Noel Clare Heflin Ulmer; his son, Warren Scott Ulmer and wife, Erna, of Burghaslach, Germany; his daughters, Dana Lynn Ulmer Hilfirty and husband, John, of Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, Stacie Ann Ulmer Edmiston and husband, Cecil, of Ft. Worth, Texas and Susan Irene Ulmer Martin and husband, James, of Medora, Indiana; his brother, Charles A. “Pee Wee” Ulmer of Verda, Louisiana and his sisters, Susie M. Williams and husband, Marlin, of Montgomery, Louisiana, Ruth I. Edwards and husband, Charles “Eddie”, of Lake Placid, Florida and Viola “Punkin” May and husband, Johnny, of Gloster, Louisiana. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sabrina Ulmer of Geiselwind, Germany, Dalton Hilfirty of Placentia, California, Devin Hilfirty of Flora, Illinois and Taylor Houston of Belmont, North Carolina and Sydne Edmiston of Ft. Worth, Texas; one step-grandchild, Logan Martin and one step-great-grandchild, Adrian Martin of Seymour, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman David Ulmer and Olevia Dubois Ulmer; his sisters, Audrey L. “Sis” Montgomery and Dora Edna Roach and his brothers, James H. “Jimmy” Ulmer, William F. “Frank” Ulmer, Jesse W. “Buddy” Ulmer and Ernest H. “Pete” Ulmer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The First Baptist Church of Opelousas “Send Me Initiative” supporting community outreach programs.
