Walter Gaines

Opelousas A mass of Christian Burial will be held for Walter Norman Gaines, age 82, on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.

Mr. Gaines, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

He owned and operated Gaines Jewelry in Opelousas. He enjoyed backpacking, hiking and model ship building. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He is survived by his sons, Charles Gregory Gaines and his wife, Susan, of Lafayette, La. and Thomas Alan Gaines and wife, Tammy, of Slidell, La. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Benjamin , Heather, Monique, Kristen, Megan and Danielle Gaines. He is also survived by 3 greatgrandchildren, Kenneth, Thomas and Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Edwards Gaines and his parents, Paul and Thelma Chachere Gaines.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010 until time of service.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
