A loving son and inspiring brother, Wade Leon, 42, of Opelousas, LA passed away at his home August 18, 2012 with his immediate family present. His 18month battle against lung cancer was an unrelenting and dignified one, best characterized by Henley:
In the fell clutch of circumstance8232
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance8232
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
He was born March 3, 1970 in Derry, N. Ireland the Bogside to Anna Sweeney and later moved with his family to Louisiana in 1976.
To be sure, near the end he transcended pain and suffering to protect his family, just as he lived his entire life defined by his selfless, caring, and compassionate nature. A Louisiana man by address, but an Irish man at heart, Wade brought love and laughter into the lives of all of those who knew him both in the States and in Ireland. Above all, his measures of success were the degree to which his family breathed easier each day, the extent to which they laughed, and the depth to which he loved them. By those measures, his life was a success and he is an inspiration.
He is survived by his mother, Anna Sweeney his brother, Sean Leon of New York his sisters, Brenda Quirk, Karen Sanchez, and Megan Sanchez his uncle and mucker, Michael Sweeney of Derry, N. Ireland his aunts Rhona Toland and Sally McCusker also of Derry, N. Ireland his niece, Morgan Quirk and his nephew, Braylon Leblanc and his cousins in Derry, N. Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his uncle Liam Sweeney of Derry, N. Ireland and his aunt Maria McConomy also of Derry, N. Ireland.
Consistent with Wades personality and wishes, the family will observe a private service.
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. Emerson
