Virginia Mcbride

It is with deep sorrow we regretfully announce the passing of Virginia Marie Benoit McBride on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the age of 68 at the Sage Rehabilitation Hospital in Lafayette, LA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Virginia Benoit McBride, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde, LA.  Fr. Ted Broussard and Fr. Joe Campion will concelebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow at the Verrette Cemetery in Swords, LA.

Virginia was a caregiver for most of her life.  She was a very giving person who loved helping people.  She also helped her husband manage their convenient store in Opelousas for several years.  Virginia was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed taking care of all her family and friends.  She extended her kindness and generosity to as many people as she could.  She was an avid reader and loved to travel.  Most of all, she was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.  She will be remembered for always making a “big deal” about everyone’s accomplishments.  Virginia was a kind, loving and gentle soul who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Angelle McBride Meaux and husband, Adam of Church Point; her brothers, Fred Benoit of Opelousas, Morris Benoit of Church Point, Marvin Benoit and wife, Melba of Leonville; and Paul Benoit and wife, Barbara, of Maurice; her sisters, Patricia Benoit Meche and husband, Herman of Leonville; Veronica Benoit McCartney and husband, Jerry of San Antonio, TX; her sisters-in-law, Patra Noel Benoit of Church Point; and Sue Tribe Young of Lebanon, TN; and her brother-in-law, Elson Galland of Duson.   She is also survived by her grandchildren, Madison Meaux, Jace Meaux, and Gavin Meaux; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace J. McBride; her father, Elie Benoit; her mother, Avia Benoit Noel; her brothers, Charles Benoit, Sr. and Charlie Tribe; one sister, Martha Galland; and her sisters-in-law, Ghislaine Benoit and Regina Benoit.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.  A Rosary will be prayed Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. by Mario Benoit.  Visitation will continue Friday, September 2, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.

Pallbearers will be Codi Campbell, Paul Jagneaux, Mario Benoit, Vance Galland, Erik Benoit, Michael Benoit, and Joshua Galland.  Honorary pallbearers will be Marcus Benoit, Jace Meaux and Gavin Meaux.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Sage Rehabilitation Hospital for their wonderful medical care which was received by Mrs. Virginia.
