A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Verna Mell Christ Cloud, at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. Rite of Committal will take place at St. John Cemetery in Lewisburg, LA.

Ms. Mell, a resident of Opelousas, LA, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mell enjoyed working in her yard, singing in the church choir and Opelousas Community Choir. She was an active member in her prayer group and the Ave Maria Shrine.

She is survived by her children, Becky D. Gossett, Gerald "Bubba" B. Ducharme, Jr. (Monette), Chris Ducharme, Judy D. Leblanc (Jerry), Quin Ducharme, Jeanne Ducharme and Bonnie Ducharme. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Pauline B. Christ, her husband, J.E. "Red" Cloud and her sister, Henrietta C. Childs.

Visitation will be held at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 by Deacon Joubert and the Ave Maria Rosary Group.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to her loving friends and Heart of Hospice Lafayette for their extraordinary compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers mass donations can be made in Mel Cloud's name.
