Verlon Lanclos

OPELOUSAS, LA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 PM, Tuesday, September 2, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, for Verlon Charles Lanclos, 83, who passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29 at 11:47 AM, at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings, LA. Entombment will be held in the Bellevue Memorial Cemetery on Highway 182 south in Opelousas.

Father James Brady will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Mr. Lanclos was born on October 27, 1930 in Leonville and is the son of Joseph Ellis and Edolia Hebert Lanclos.

After graduating from Port Barre High School, Verlon was called upon to serve in the military on August 15, 1951. After basic infantry training, he was assigned to the Headquarters Company, the 179th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division in the Korean War. As a combat infantryman, he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received as a result of hostile actions, the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy, the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Medal. He honorably separated from the US Army on July 27, 1953 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. As a veteran in 2009, he was awarded the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal by Governor Bobby Jindal. Mr. Lanclos was a proud and active member of VFW post 2483 in Opelousas.

After leaving the military, Mr. Lanclos was employed by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture for fifteen years. He then graduated from the National Radio Institute, received an electrician license, FCC certification, and LA state radio and television license. He established and operated Lanclos TV Service in Opelousas for over forty years before retiring in 1995.

Left to cherish his memories is Verlons wife of 59 years, Mary Helen Quebedeaux Lanclos one daughter, Carmen Lanclos Ardoin and husband, Dr. Brent and three sons, Michael Lanclos and wife Melissa, Dexter Lanclos and wife Monica, and Kenneth Lanclos nine grandchildren, Brandon Ardoin and wife, Dr. Lara and Jake Ardoin, Jason and Mitzi Lanclos, Cody and Beaugh Lanclos, and Toby, Anya, and Trent Lanclos and six greatgrandchildren Emilia Ardoin, Olivia Lanclos and Landon Ridenour, and Spencer, Madilyn, and Ashton Lanclos.

Preceded in his death are parents, Joseph Ellis and Edolia Hebert Lanclos brothers, Gervis and Cleveland Lanclos and sister, Virgin Mary Lanclos.

Pallbearers will be Michael, Dexter, Kenneth, Jason, Cody, and Toby Lanclos. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon, Jake, and Dr. Brent Ardoin, Dale Savoie, and Larry Quebedeaux. Tribute will be given by Brandon Ardoin. Readers will be Mitzi, Melissa, and Monica Lanclos. Gift bearers will be Anya, Beaugh, and Trent Lanclos. Music will be provided by Phyllis Simar, organist, and Ron Moreau, soloist.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 10 AM to 9 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6 PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will resume at 8 AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 until time of service at St. Landry Catholic Church.

The family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown by the entire staff of the War Veterans Home in Jennings and also the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care of Lake Charles. May God bless all of you
