Velma Fontenot

Washington -Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Brown Fontenot will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the services. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

Velma was a native of Basile and longtime resident of Washington. She passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home of Opelousas at the age of 79. She was retired after working 50 years as a Legal Secretary at the Charles Boagni Law Office. She was also a Notary Public. She was a member of the Legal Secretaries Association. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ellis S. Fontenot of Washington; one son, Donald Fontenot and wife, Millie of Grand Prairie; one grandson, Dustin Fontenot and fiancé, Lacey Duplechain of Washington; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Fontenot and Sophia Fontenot, both of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Ashford.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Wednesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in funeral home.
