Thomas Dennis Dodge III, known affectionately as "Tom" to his family and friends, passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2024, at his residence in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Tom led a fulfilling life that touched the hearts of many. He was born on November 6, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama. Education played a significant role in shaping Tom's worldview. A graduate of Gulf Breeze High School in Florida, Troy University in Alabama, and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; he valued learning and growth throughout his life. Tom's musical talents were also noteworthy; from playing the drums in the Troy University “Sound of the South” marching band to entertaining audiences in various local and church bands.

Tom’s career as a sportswriter spanned over 28 years, as he dedicated his talent to the Daily World and Eunice News newspapers. His passion for storytelling shone through his articles, captivating readers with his insightful perspective on various sporting events.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was a man of unwavering faith. His devout Christian beliefs guided him through life, and he was actively involved in Our Savior's Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. His commitment to his spiritual community left a lasting impact on all those around him.

Tom's warm personality endeared him to many. He cherished his family above all else and found immense joy in their company. He especially loved being “Pop” to his granddaughter, Kaitlyn.

Whether it was sharing stories around the dinner table or cheering on his favorite sports team together, Tom's love knew no bounds. His gentleness and compassion was shared with his dogs throughout his life as they were his “four legged children”.

An avid sports enthusiast, Tom's passion extended beyond his work. He was a loyal fan of his beloved Auburn Tigers and enjoyed immersing himself in the world of sports. Additionally, his love for antique cars led him to explore vintage vehicles, notably owning an older model Ford Mustang that brought him great pride.

His legacy as a devoted sportswriter, a man of faith, and a loving companion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In this time of mourning, Tom is survived by his beloved family and friends who will forever hold dear the memories they shared with him.

He is survived by his mother, Ann Pate Dodge of Auburn, Alabama; his daughter, Brandi Soileau and husband, Travis of Carencro; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Soileau of Carencro; one sister, Suzanne Nichols and husband, Roger of Hartselle, Alabama; two nephews, Randall Nichols and Adam Nichols; and one niece, Deborah Bennett.
