Funeral services for Theresa Deshotel Speyrer will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Landry Catholic Church with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, La. The Reverend Monsignor Robert Romero will conduct the services. brbrShe was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always giving of her time and energy to her family and friends. She loved to travel, cook and sew. She especially loved Sunday dinners and holiday dinners. Her faith and the church knew no bounds and she belonged to a rosary group, ladies alter society and church cleaning group at the Immaculate Conception Church. Between the years of 1938 and 1942, she worked at the County Agents office in Opelousas. She then worked at the Texaco in Port Arthur. During WWII, she was employed at the Rome Air Depot in Rome, New York. After rearing her children, she returned to work and she worked for 24 years at the St. Landry Parish Department of Family Social Services until 1981, when she retired. She belonged to the St. Landry Parish Retirees Club and belonged to the same pokeno club for 30 years. Majority of this group is made up of state employee retirees. She also belonged to the Legion of Mary, Jasper-Neyland American Legion Post of Washington where she was a secretary. brbrSurvivors include her daughter, Rebecca Becky Reed of Opelousas; her son, Ronald Speyrer of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Julie Gremillion of Opelousas; Racheal B. Erickson and husband, Dr. Matt Erickson, of Jena, La.; Wendy B. Sumer and husband, Ron Sumer, of Baton Rouge; Leah S. Spelling and husband, Clayton, of Baton Rouge; Alan Speyrer and wife, Amy Hinisky of Lubbock, Texas. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Olivia-Kate and Emma Abagail Sumer; Lilly Alyce Erickson; Allie and Abbie Speyrer and one step-great grandchild, Dion Sumer.brbrMs. Speyrer is preceded in death by her husband, Eli Speyrer; her parents, Arthur and Marie David Deshotel; her brothers, Lawrence and wife, Iola Bordelon Deshotel; Clarence and wife, Ruby Soileau Deshotel and one sister, Agnelia and husband, Sidney Munsey; one grandchild, Katherine L. Reed and one son-in-law, R.S. Sol Reed.brbrVisitation will be held on Friday, January 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. until service time.
