Theresa Darbonne

Opelousas –Memorial services for Theresa Duplechien Darbonne will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. Deacon Bill Pollingue will officiate the services.

The family requested gathering times be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.

Theresa Velma Duplechien Darbonne was a native of Lawtell and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. She was a past (year) graduate of Lawtell High School.  She passed away on January 7, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center at the age of 83.

Theresa was a very devoted mother and grandmother. Her love for her family will be forever cherished.  Her caring nature is what led her into the nursing field. Theresa worked as a LPN Nurse at Opelousas General Hospital and then, became a Registered Nurse which allowed her to work as a Surgical Nurse for many years.  She also worked for St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles and Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette until her retirement.

She enjoyed being with people as she volunteered at the Lafayette Visitors Center where she shared our Acadian Culture and places with tourists traveling through our state.  She also loved spending time with her family and traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.  She would join her friends at the Ladies Quilting Club during their time together to fellowship.  In her spare time, she enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles, watching the Saints Football games, and gardening around her home tending to plants, flowers, and vegetable plants. She will always be remembered and will be deeply missed by all.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Darbonne (Francine) of LeBlanc; brother, Hubert Duplechien of Lawtell; sister, Ethel Duplechien Soileau of Lafayette; four grandchildren: Kevin Darbonne II (Juanita), Sara Darbonne Shay, Ashley Darbonne, and Brennon Blanchard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ovellien Duplechien and Agnes Richard Duplechien; her son, Jody Darbonne; and brothers, Kermit John Duplechien and Newbon “Red” Duplechien.
