Sylvia Prejean

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Sylvia Theresa Richard Prejean at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, La.  Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Bridget Church Mausoleum in Lawtell.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sylvia Theresa Richard Prejean, age 84.  She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Sylvia was a wonderful cook, enjoyed reading at home, praying the rosary and playing Bingo at the nursing home.  Most of all she loved taking care of her grandchildren.  Sylvia will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Kirk Prejean and wife, Laurie, of Pearl River, La.; her daughters, Phyllis Prejean Castille of Opelousas, La., Catherine Prejean Stanford and husband, Ira "Bo" Stanford, Jr. of Opelousas, La. and her sister, Sandra Fontenot of Eunice, La.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brandon Stanford (Karen), Dustin Stanford (Dana), Alex Stanford (Charlie Danielle), Kimberly Castille Anderson (Chris), Eric Prejean (Sable), Kevin Prejean and nine great-grandchildren, Ray Prejean, Sloane Prejean, Braylon LeBlanc, Cullen Stanford, Ana-Kathryn Stanford, Amelia Anderson, Estella Anderson, Christian Anderson and Luke Stanford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Raymond Prejean; her parents, Darbus Richard and Lelia Comeaux Richard; her sisters, Joycelyn "Lolly" Goudeau, Betty Doucet, Helen "Bobby" Lavergne, Jeanette Benoit and her brother, Ray Richard.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Stanford, Dustin Stanford, Alex Stanford, Eric Prejean, Kevin Prejean and Chris Anderson.
