Krotz Springs- Private Graveside services will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery in Krotz Springs.
Sherby was a native of Cecilia, lived most of his life in Krotz Springs, and was currently residing in Port Barre. He passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 89.
Sherby served his country honorably in the United States Army 1st Calvary Division as a Sgt. during the Korean Conflict. He was also a Decorated Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the Army in 1952, he followed his trade as a welder. He was well respected by his employers and fellow workers as a top welder, hard worker and dependable.
Sherby was gifted with common sense (which isn’t common these days) in being able to repair things mechanical, electrical, etc. He enjoyed vegetable gardening in his spare time which was learned during his youth. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Theresa Eusey Skrantz of Port Barre; his brothers, Calvert Skrantz and wife, Shirley of Baton Rouge; and Clayton Skantz and wife, Shirley of Zachary; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Kilvan and Volina Hayes Skrantz; sisters, Shirley Morris; Beatrice Benoit, Verdie Stoute, and Paola Robin; and brothers, Adley Skrantz; Emery Skrantz; Leroy Scrantz and Joseph Croyce (JC) Scrantz.
Pallbearers will be Calvert Skrantz; Randy Skrantz; David Durham and Ray Dupre.
Memorial Services for the public will be held at a later date.
