Sheila Soumeillan

Funeral service for Ms. Shelia Ann Soumeillan will be held on Sunday, September 7th at 7:00PM at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Pastor Woody Gunnels will conduct the service. Graveside service will be in Morgan City Cemetery on Monday September 8th at 11:00AM in Morgan City, La.

Shelia was born December 6th, 1946 in Morgan City, Louisiana to Daisy Bell H. and Carol Charles Soumeillan. She passed away Thursday, August 30, 2008 at her residence. She was a resident of Opelousas and formerly of Morgan City La. She was employed at one time by the City of Morgan City Purchasing Department as a file clerk. Shelia attended Chinchuba Institute for the deaf in Marrero, La. She loved dancing and family get-togethers.

Many thanks to the Staff at Opelousas General Hospital, Rehab, ICU, PCU and Maison DeVille, Dr. Michael Burnell, Dr. Ty Hargroder, Dr. Lionel Mayer, Dr. Kalyan Veerina and Hospice who attended to Shelias needs. A special thanks to Kalsha Simon who helped Carolyn and Jerry take care of Shelia and has been adopted as part of the family

Shelia is survived by one sister Carolyn and her husband Jerry Walls of Opelousas, who were Shelias caregivers for the last few years, a brother; Rodney and his wife Pam of Lafayette. She is also survived by nephews and nieces; Derrick Walls and his wife Ruth of Opelousas, Troy Walls and his wife Lori of Opelousas, Mike Soumeillan and his wife Beckie of Monroeville AL., Michel Soumeillan and her husband David Lanclos of Opelousas, Troy Soumeillan and his wife Bridgett of Lafayette and Angelia Soumeillan of Lafayette, and many great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Daisy Bell and Carol Charles Soumeillan, a sister and her grandparents.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 7th from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.
