Sharon Ortego

Krotz Springs - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM for Sharon Ann Higdon Ortego on Friday, December 21, 2018, at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Krotz Springs. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Michael DeBlanc will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Ortego, age 75, a resident of Krotz Springs, LA, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Sharon was a parishioner of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Krotz Springs. She was a talented artist who painted oil paintings of nature scenes. She enjoyed being outdoors while hunting, fishing, and traveling. Sharon enjoyed going to the casino and Las Vegas, doing crafts and entering sweepstakes. She cherished spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, a caring mother and grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Sharon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Francis Ortego of Krotz Springs; two sons, Robert Ortego and wife, Felicia; and Ronald Ortego and wife, Trisha; two daughters, Jan Ortego Johnson and companion, Ricky Lacassin; and Joy Ortego Guidry and husband, Craig; one sister, Joyce Burleigh, and a special niece who was like a sister, Lynette Artigue; all of Krotz Springs; . She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Blake and wife, Heather; Amber and fiancé, Caleb; Tara and fiancé, Amber; Kristen and husband, Frankie; Jodi, Adam and fiancé, Jessie; Katelyn and husband, Jacob; Taylor, and Tyler; and twelve great-grandchildren, Harley, Gunnar, Caleb II, Paisley, Maygun, Nevaeh, Frankie III, Gabriel, Sawyer, Levi, Mason, and Ryleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellen Ardoin and Sullivan Higdon; son-in-law, Chris Johnson; brother, Nelson "Moon" Higdon; and sister, Delores Higdon Lacassin.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018, beginning at 4:00 p.m. with an all-night wake until 9:30 a.m. on Friday in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Krotz Springs. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Craig Guidry, Blake Johnson, Adam Ortego, Taylor Ortego, Tyler Ortego, and Burt Burleigh.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Heritage Manor Nursing Home of Opelousas, Dr. Patrick Gillespie and his staff, and the staff of LA Hospice and Palliative Care of Opelousas for their wonderful care which was given to Mrs. Sharon.

Monetary donations can be made in memory of Mrs. Sharon Ortego to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Krotz Springs or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
