Sharon Gautreaux Fontenot

OPELOUSAS–A Mass of Christian Burial for Sharon Ann Gautreaux Fontenot will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Father Jude Thierry will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and burial will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt.  Sharon Ann Gautreaux Fontenot, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the age of 60, following a long illness with MSA and ALS.  Sharon, as she was fondly known, was born on January 8, 1964, in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Ewell and Bevelyn Gautreaux.  In 1982 she graduated from Mamou High School and then went on to McNeese State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1996.  She taught at Opelousas Junior High School for four years and then started New Hope Christian Academy in 2002 and in 2009 it became Warriors for Christ Christian Academy.  

Sharon is survived by her daughters, Ashleigh Fontenot Breaux and Gabrielle Fontenot; her sons, Eric Brown Fontenot, C.J. Fontenot, and Christian Fontenot; her fiancé, Keith Pierrotti; her stepchildren, Nicholas Pierrotti and Alexis Pierrotti; and her sisters, Clara Marks and her husband, Vernon; Roxane Gautreaux Carte and husband, Sammy; and Tammy Bellard.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Shelbie Leigh Breaux, Spencer Joseph Breaux, Owen Fontenot, Emma Fontenot, Ivyana Fontenot, Ross Hulion, and Cylar Elter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herman Fontenot; her parents, Ewell and Bevelyn Darbonne Gautreaux; her son, Trent Fontenot; her brother-in-law, Ronald Bellard, Sr.; and her nephew, Ronald J. Bellard, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM.   A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. by Cecille Dupre.  The funeral home will re-open on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 8:00 AM until the time of service at 12:30 PM.  

Pallbearers will be Eric Fontenot, C.J. Fontenot, Christian Fontenot, Tim Marks, Zach Bellard, Cory Bellard, Spencer Breaux, Shelbie Breaux, and Nicholas Pierrotti.
