Sam Yander, Jr.

Melville A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Sam Yander, Jr., age 61, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in the St. John Catholic Church in Melville, followed by interment in the church mausoleum.

Mr. Yander who was a resident of Bayou Current, died at 8:10 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Sam was a longtime member of the St. Landry Parish Sheriffs Posse he was employed parttime with the Bayou Buff Red River Atchafalaya Levee Board, he was a member of the Local 406 Operating Engineers Union, he farmed and raised livestock. Sam began fox and deer hunting when he was a child and his passion continued into adulthood as Sam loved raising and running his deer and fox hounds. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Annette Carriere Yander, of Bayou Current, La. his mother, Jennie Yander Thibodeaux and his stepfather, Earl Thibodeaux, of Bayou Current, La. his son, Sam Buck Yander, III and wife, Naomi G. Yander, of Bayou Current, La. his stepsons, Don E. Firmin, II and wife, Crystal G. Firmin, of Plaucheville and Jacob Firmin and wife, Neica H. Firmin, of Bayou Rouge his daughter, Debbie Yander of Melville, La. his brother, Bennie W. Yander and wife, Leslie, of Prairieville, La. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Yander, Sr.

Pallbearers will be, Danton Beard, Lane Yander, Jeff Brassette, Micah Clark, Ronnie Brouillette and Clint Londerno. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jimmy Goudeau, Randy Firmin, John Schexnayder and Gerald Leger.

Visiting will be observed in the St. John Catholic Church Hall 318 First St., Melville, LA beginning Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
