Ruth Antie

Melville Funeral services for Ruth McAdams Antie, age 87, will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. in the Melville Methodist Church, followed by interment in the Atchafalaya Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Bayou Current, La. Reverend Kenneth Chapman will conduct the services.

Mrs. Antie died on Monday, August 24, 2009 at her residence.

Ruth Antie was a native and life-long resident of Melville area. She was the wife of Pete Antie, former principal of Melville High School and 5-term alderman. She was very proud of their two sons, Charles and Don, who both attained the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from LSU. She devoted her entire life to being a supportive wife and mother and was very involved in community service. She was a charter member of the Melville Womans Club and was the longest serving active member at her death. She served as president twice and spear-headed many committees during her 55 year tenure. Together, along with her husband, assisted in improving the town in many ways such as establishing a community center, a medical facility and a heliport to be used for medical emergencies.

Survivors include her sons, Donald Antie of Gulfport, Mississippi and wife, Judith Walker Antie; Charles Antie of Baton Rouge, La. and wife, Brenda Nolan Antie; her sisters, Marjorie McAdams Goings of Baton Rouge, La.; Doris McAdams Coburn of Prairieville, La.; her five grandchildren, Donald Antie, Jr., Susie Antie Bullock, Brian Antie, Betsy Antie Saia, and Jennnifer Antie Relle and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Pete Antie; her parents, Ira and Bertha Berger McAdams; her brothers, George McAdams, Ralph McAdams, Ira McAdams and her sister, Irma McAdams.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Nellie Devillier and her family for their care and devotion and all of the other caregivers and the staff of Heart of Hospice.

Visitation will be held in the Melville Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will re-open on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
