Ruby Courville

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Ruby Callandret Courville at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 14, 2018, at St. Landry Catholic Church. Visitation will be held in St. Landry Catholic Church on Friday beginning at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. Reverend Father Gary Schexnayder will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place at St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville, LA. Gift bearers will be Halle' Callandret and Elizabeth James. Readers will be Emily James, Evangeline Pelletier, Ian Thompson and Ashley Pelletier.


Mrs. Courville, age 95, a resident of Opelousas, LA, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home.


Even though Ruby didn't have children of her own, she was a mother to everyone. She not only cared for everyone around her, she also took in stray animals. She was an avid gardener, loved reading and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of the St. Francis Regis Catholic Church's Altar Society for many years. Ruby will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.


She is survived by her sister-in-law, Gertrude Robin Callandret of Arnaudville; and many generations of nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson J. Courville; her parents, Francis and Armentine Artigue Callandret; her brother, Herman J. Callandret; and her sister, Anna Belle Callandret Lanclos.


Pallbearers will be Chris Callandret, Adam Pelletier, Joshua Callandret, Brandon Lanclos and Ricky James. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Lanclos, Michael Callandret and Gene Callandret.
