Mr. Sol Reed was born in Oakdale, LA. He played high school football for Oakdale High School. He was a United States Air Force Staff Sergeant who proudly served his country in the Vietnam War utilizing his skill as a ground radio repairman He attended LSUA, USL, and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes School of Respiratory Therapy. Sol was the first department- head of the newly created Department of Respiratory Therapy at Doctors Hospital in Opelousas. He also worked for the Department of Respiratory Therapy for the Rayne Branch Hospital. More recent, he worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist on the weekends and a pilot during the week.

His love of flying began at an early age. In 1975, he received the gift of flight instruction as a Fathers Day Gift. After the birth of his fourth child, he took his newborn baby and family on his first solo flight. He was a respected flight instructor and pilot for over twenty five years. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association. He was also a member of the National Board of Respiratory Therapy, and the St. Landry Catholic Church, and the Prompt Succor Nursing Home Chapel.

Sol Reed was known for having a big smile and sharing humor with everyone. He did not dream of fortune and fame. He dreamt of the day that he could take his three young grand-daughters on a flight and share his love of flying.
