Opelousas – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rose Marie Deville Burleigh at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Our Lady Queen of Angles Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rose Marie Deville Burleigh, age 88, on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Rose and her husband, Charles, owned and operated Burleigh's Grocery on Railroad Avenue in Opelousas for over 18 years. She was an avid gardener and loved taking care of her flowers and landscaping. She also enjoyed taking trips to the local casinos and shopping. Rose will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her two sons, Charles Michael Burleigh "Tiny" and wife, Terry of Sunset; Ralph Francis Burleigh "Boo" and wife, Carmen of Opelousas; one daughter, Terry Burleigh Zerangue of Sunset; eight grandchildren, Chad Burleigh, Kristy Burleigh Venable, Brandy Burleigh Sonnier, Ashley Zerangue Willar, Brooke Burleigh, Brittany Zerangue, Bradley Zerangue, Jeremy Burleigh and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burleigh; her parents, Pierre Martin and Amelie Guillory Martin; her sister, Ella Mae Hymel and brothers, Harry Lee Deville, Joseph Deville and Tally Deville.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas beginning at 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday recited by Darrell Burleigh. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Mike Burleigh, Ralph Burleigh, Chad Burleigh, Jeremy Burleigh, Brad Zerangue and Brennan Norman.
The family would like to thank Hope Home Health Hospice and her caretakers, Nicole, Christine, Lynelle, Megan, Jena and staff and Dr. Alemany and his staff.
