Rose Jarrell

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2008, at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home for Rose Evelyn Jarrell, 91, who passed away Monday, March 17, in Denton, TX. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park. Bishop Michael Jarrell and Fr. Pete Smith will conduct the services.

A long time resident of Opelousas, Mrs. Jarrell was born on February 13, 1917, in Anson, Texas. After attending college and teaching school in Anson, she relocated to San Diego, CA. to work in the air defense industry during World War II. She and her first husband, Herbert Callahan, were co-owners of Dupre, Carrier, Callahan Insurance Agency in Opelousas where she worked until her retirement. After his death, she married William Bill Jarrell, Sr., with whom she enjoyed traveling during their retirement. After Bills death, she moved to Texas to be with her sister and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ava Haynes and James Marion Arnett; her first husband, Herbert Callahan; second husband, William H. Jarrell, Sr.; and one nephew, Jim Holmes.

Rose Evelyn enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking and collecting and sharing recipes with family and friends.

Survivors include her sister, Vivian Holmes of Denton, TX; two nephews, Edward Holmes and wife Suzette of McKinney, TX, and Fred Holmes and wife Donna of Irving, TX; one niece, Anne H. Taylor and husband James JET of Denton, TX; two stepsons, William Jarrell, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Opelousas and Bishop Michael Jarrell of Lafayette; two stepdaughters, Jessica Jarrell Bernard and husband John, and Kakie Jarrell Lalonde, both of Lafayette.

Pallbearers will be Edward Holmes, Fred Holmes, James JET Taylor, William Jarrell, Jr., Dr. John Bernard and William Jarrell, III.

Visitation will be Friday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:00a.m.
