Rodney Rymer

November 21, 1956 — August 28, 2015

Rodney Keith Rymer, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on the evening of Friday, August 28, 2015, at Lafayette General Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Rodney was 58 years old.

Rodney was born in Acworth, GA, on November 21, 1956. He returned often to Georgia and Tennessee throughout the years to visit his family and friends.

He graduated from Georgia Southwestern with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Science in 1978 and from the University of Kentucky with a Master of Science degree in Geology in 1981. He moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1981 to begin a career as a geologist, first working at Texaco starting in 1981. He moved to Slidell, LA, in 1987 and remained there until 2007. Throughout the years, he worked at Watson Energy starting in 1999, Energy Partners starting in 2001, and Murphy Oil and Gas starting in 2002. He moved to Opelousas, LA, and began to work at Stone Energy in Lafayette from 2007 until the time of his death. Throughout the years he had been involved with his community and in professional organizations, such as with the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES), as a coach and referee with the Slidell Youth Soccer Club, a Boy Scout Troop Leader, and he was an Eagle Scout too.

He was fond of his dogs, Jimmy Buffett's music, and the television show Dr. Who. He was also an avid collector of coins and rocks, and had a knack for finding the most random hole-in-the-wall restaurants to visit during road trips.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 35 years, Eydie Rymer, his two children, Arthur Rymer and Tegan Rymer, and his sister Sharon Thompson and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Louella Rymer.

Rodney was known for his kindness and generosity to all and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
