Robert Simoneaux

Washington - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Robert Simoneaux, age 60, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, LA. Reverend Jared Suire will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Robert grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana with frequent trips to the LaFleur family home in Washington, Louisiana. A favorite memory from his childhood was of a family car trip to the Grand Canyon.

Robert graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1984 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for many years in the aerospace industry at the NASA Johnson Space Center and in the oil and gas industry in Houston, Texas.

Robert enjoyed skydiving, skiing and scuba diving. He piloted small planes and was particularly happy riding the Harley Davidson motorcycle that was his fiftieth birthday present. There were few mechanical devices that he was not able to repair. He often said that only transmissions and brain surgery were out of his comfort zone. Robert was an avid fan of the all things weather related, Fox News and talk radio.

Robert is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sarah Early Simoneaux and the light of his life, his daughter, Elizabeth JoAnna Simoneaux. He is also survived by: one brother, Don Simoneaux and Don's wife, Susan; one sister Charmaine Simoneaux; four nieces and their husbands: and six grand nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Edward Simoneaux and Annabelle LaFleur Simoneaux, and by his brother, Michael Simoneaux.

Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 11:00 a.m. on Monday until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Houston Museum of Natural Science which was a favorite place for Robert to spend time with his family.
