Funeral services for Robert Reginald Ray will be held on Sunday, November 19th, 2006 at 2PM at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas with interment at Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Perry Hubbs will conduct the services.
Mr. Ray, 82, died Thursday, November 16th, 2006. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Opelousas who was an usher and served on several committees at the church, and was a member of the Humble Cottage Masonic Lodge 19 and was also an avid Boy Scout supporter. He was a veteran of the U.S.Marine Corps during WWII. Mr. Ray was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a very dear friend to everyone he met He was raised by his Maternal Grandmother, Minnie Lee McElwee Shaw.
He is survived by his wife; LaVerne C. Ray of Opelousas, 2 sons; Robert L. Ray and his wife Linda Yancey Ray of Baton Rouge and George Brad Ray and his wife Monika Poche Ray of Ponchatoula, La., a daughter; Sherry Ray Sandoz and her husband Larry Sandoz of Opelousas, a brother; Sidney Ray and his wife Maggie of Arcadia La. grandchildren; Courtney, Robert Robi and Stephen Sandoz, Michael and Carolyn Ray, Emily and Benjamin Ray. 3 Great-grandchildren; Kaleb and Emma Sandoz and Leighton Copell
He was preceded in death by his parents; Lamar and Sallie Mae Ray, a brother; George William Ray and 2 other brothers who died at birth.
The family has requested that visitation be observed on Saturday, November 18th, 2006 from 4PM to 9PM and will re-open on Sunday from 10AM till time of service.
