Rita Emily (Dupré) Pate, 75 of Milton, Florida, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

Rita was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on September 14, 1942 to parents Lawrence T. Dupré, Sr. and Rita Amy Soileau Dupré. She was the oldest of eight children. She joined the U. S. Navy in 1962 and was stationed in Millington, Tennessee where she met her husband of 30 years, Charles S. Pate, who preceded her in death in November, 1995. She traveled with him to various duty stations as a Navy wife for the rest of his Navy career until his retirement in 1976 when they settled in Milton.

Rita was preceded in death by her father; her step-father, Clifton Veillon; her youngest sister, Cathy Dupré Coleman; her brother-in-law, Ronald Zerangue; and her nephew, Matthew Phillips.

Rita is survived by her sons, Charles S. Pate II and his wife Lisa of Milton, and Colin Mitchell Pate and his wife Susan of Milton; her grandchildren Jennifer McDaniel and husband Jonathan of Jacksonville, Florida, Amber Pate of Milton, Ashley Pate of Starkville, Mississippi, Coleen Pate of Milton, and Brittani Pate and Brandon Harper-Wilson of Milton; and her two great-grandchildren, Mason McDaniel of Jacksonville and Lucas Harper-Wilson of Milton.

Rita is also survived by her mother, Amy Soileau Dupré Veillon of Lafayette, Louisiana; her brother Lawrence T. Dupré, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Lafayette; her sister Marilyn Zerangue of Lafayette; her brother Gene Dupré and his wife Lynda of Lafayette; her brother Karl Dupré and his wife Kathy of Nashville, Tennessee; her sister Donna Phillips and her husband Don of Moore, Oklahoma; her brother Phil Dupré and his wife Donna of Grand Coteau, Louisiana; her step-sister Mary Judy (Peanut) Elder and her husband Frankie of Washington, Louisiana; her step-sister Linda Faye Veillon Workman Bertrand of Opelousas, Louisiana; her step-brother Clifton (Brother) Veillon, Jr. of Arnaudville, Louisiana; her step-sister Cindy Bealer and her husband Jim of Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Funeral services were held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel. Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station.

There will be a memorial service at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, Louisiana beginning at Noon on December 1, 2018 with a Funeral Service at 1 PM, followed by a reception in the funeral home.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the staff on the sixth floor of Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida and the staff of Covenant Hospice of Sacred Heart for the love and compassion they provided to our mother and to our family.
