Reverend Hutchins

Opelousas - Funeral services will be held for Reverend Vernon J. Hutchins, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015, in the First United Pentecostal Church of Opelousas. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, LA. Reverend E.W. Reeves, Pastor Alan Spence, Reverend Ricki Pavlu and Reverend Jonathan Lewis will conduct the funeral service.

Reverend Hutchins, age 83, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Senior Village Nursing Home.

Vernon was an ordained minister of the United Pentecostal Church for over 40 years. He pastored churches in South Carolina and Louisiana and made many contributions to the Africa Impact Team, traveling to Nigeria and Cameroon.

Vernon served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post #45. He worked many years as a boilermaker and was an avid duck and deer hunter. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Cushman Hutchins, of Opelousas, LA; his son, Vernon Dwain Hutchins and wife, Tina, of Carencro, LA; his daughters, Linda Gayle Lafleur and husband, Michael, of Lawtell, LA; Cynthia Lewis and husband, Jonathan, of Sunset, LA and Angela Dupre and husband, Barton, of Opelousas, LA. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lenora Ardoin Hutchins, three brothers, four sisters and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the First United Pentecostal Church of Opelousas from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
