Rene Fontenot

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rene Paul Fontenot, age 71, on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. Reverend Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.

Mr. Fontenot, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at his residence.

Rene was in his 54th year at KSLO Radio, in Opelousas, where he worked from high school to the present day. He was also a member of the Louisiana Entertainment Hall of Fame and a member of the Blue Room Gang which was a Cajuncountry troupe sponsored by local Red Bird brand sweet potatoes. In May of 2009, he received the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters Distinguished Service Award.

He is survived by wife of 50 years, Barbara Artigue Fontenot of Opelousas, La. his son, Michael P. Fontenot and wife, Christine Matt Fontenot, of Lafayette, La. and his daughter, Nancy Marie St. Cyr and husband, Dane St. Cyr, of Opelousas, La. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Andrew St. Cyr, Benjamin St. Cyr and Criston St. Cyr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Nancy Fontenot.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
