Raywood "Calhoun" Cormier

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2019 for Raywood "Calhoun" Cormier at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Krotz Springs. Father Michael DeBlanc will officiate the services. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Cemetery.

Ray, age 77, a longtime resident of Krotz Springs, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at his residence.  He was a devout Catholic and a long-time parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Krotz Springs. He worked for Texaco in Lottie, LA for 28 years and served as Alderman for the Town of Krotz Springs for 4 years and Mayor Pro-Tem.  He also was a volunteer fireman for many years, previously employed by Sheriff Howard Zerangue with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department for 10 years and joined the Krotz Springs Police Department where he has served for 11 years.  In his spare time, he loved traveling the United States with his family and friends and enjoyed the 10 years he was a Boy Scout leader for Troop #114 and assistant Scout leader for Troop #165.  He loved visiting and taking care of the elderly and shut-ins in the Krotz Springs area.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garden and camping.  Ray will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Ryan Jude Cormier and Ashley Jude Cormier, both of Lafayette; his daughter, Trisha Ortego (Ronald) of Krotz Springs; his sister, Marina Landry of Scott; his grandchildren, Adam Ortego (Jessie) Katelyn Ortego Richard (Jacob), Tyler Ortego, Taylor Ortego (Kelli), Abigail Cormier, Magdalene Cormier, Gabriella Cormier and Avery Cormier; and great-grandchildren, Levi Richard, Mason Ortego and Ryleigh Ortego.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty Anne Dartez Cormier and his parents, Eno and Sadie Cormier.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Friday evening. Visitation will continue on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Cormier, Ashley Cormier, Ronald Ortego, Adam Ortego, Tyler Ortego, Taylor Ortego, Avery Cormier and Jacob Richard.
