Ray "Tookie" Savant, Jr., age 64, was born on May 15, 1960, in Lafayette, Louisiana, and passed on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at East Jefferson General in Metairie, Louisiana.
Funeral services for Ray Savant, Jr. will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Melville. Reverend Devin England will conduct the service with burial in the Methodist Cemetery in Melville, Louisiana. The Pallbearers will be Justin Savant, Nicholas Ardoin, Alex Savant, Steven Sessums, Tyler Sessums, Ricky Sessums, Jr. and Nicholas Aggison.
Visitation for will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Melville from 10:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm.
Throughout his life, Ray worked diligently as a deckhand and roustabout in the oil field, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to his profession. He was known for his hands-on approach to life and devoted his spare time to the things he loved most. Ray had a very giving heart, always giving something to someone even if he had nothing. He enjoyed being outdoors, where he found joy in fishing, raising chickens, spending time with his beloved dogs and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. An avid automobile enthusiast, he particularly loved fast cars.
Ray is survived by his parents, Ray “Peanut” Savant, Sr. and Sister Velma Jean Vercher Savant; his loving wife of 31 years, Margie Moreau Savant, of Melville; his children: Serina Savant (Leroy Smith), Hope Ardoin (Nicholas Ardoin), Justin Savant (Victoria Gibson), and Alex Savant; and his stepdaughter, Cassandra Rouse; his grandchildren, Destiny Dotson (Reggie), Ricky Sessums, Tyler Sessums, Steven Sessums, Chelsea Smith, Kelsie Ardoin, Lincoln Ardoin, Ganon Ardoin, Kylie Savant, soon to be grandson (Justin Savant, Jr.), Jasper Gibson, Jesse Gonzales, Maxxmos Gonzales, Athena Rocha and Carson Reed and his great-grandchildren, Kailey Moore and Aria Sessums. Ray is survived by his sisters-in-law, Stacey Watts and Crystal Moreau; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nephew, Lamar Aggison and extended family who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Daphnie Nichole Savant; his paternal grandparents, Daniel Webster Savant and Hazel Dauzat Savant; his maternal grandparents, Leroy Vercher and Gladys Hughes Vercher; his father-in-law, Roger Lee Moreau; and his mother-in-law, Marie Warren Moreau, along with a host of other beloved family members.
Ray "Tookie" Savant, Jr. will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
