Opelousas – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raleigh Joseph Vige, Jr., age 76, on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A Requiem Mass will be held for Raleigh Joseph Vige, Jr. at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plaisance, LA. Father Taj Glodd will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.
Raleigh retired from Lafayette Utilities as a security guard and worked for Weiser Securities at Gobears in Sunset for many years.
Raleigh was a devout Catholic and a man of God. He attended Mass daily and prayed his Rosary daily. He served with Father Simien at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and was a member of the Ave Maria Rosary Group, Divine Will Holy Love Ministry, and the Oblate with the Benedictine Monastery. He was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plaisance. He was an avid reader of religious book and collected religious statues.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beverly Reed Vige of Opelousas; his son, Christopher Scott Vige of Opelousas; his daughter, Kelly Vige Duplechain and husband, Jeremy, of Plaisance; his brother, David Ignatius Vige of Hawaii; and his three sisters, Rexine Langlois of Ville Platte; Janice Vige of Opelousas; and Claudette Fontenot and husband, Carl, of Washington. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Shelby Landry and husband, Dominick, Devin Duplechain and wife, Emily, Noah Duplechain, Samuel Duplechain, Maria Duplechain, Lydia Duplechain, Gemma Duplechain, Evelyn Duplechain, Anna-Kate Duplechain; and his great-grandchildren, Levi Landry, Bentley Duplechain and baby Landry who's on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh Joseph Vige, Sr. and Thelma Arnaud Vige; and his brother, Gilbert J. Vige.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday lead by Father Gregory Simien. The funeral home will reopen on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with the Ave Maria Rosary Group reciting the Rosary at 9:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Scott Vige, Jeremy Duplechain, Devin Duplechain, Dominick Landry, Carl Fontenot, and Kenneth Vidrine. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Reed and James Chustz.
Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, 2845 South Union Street, Opelousas, LA 70570, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
