Pierre Martin

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Pierre W. Martin, age 93, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Rite of Committal will follow in the Myrtle Grove Cemetery with the Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen as the Celebrant.
Pierre W. Martin, who was a native of Leonville and a resident of Opelousas, died on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Opelousas General Health System.
Mr. Martin served his country honorably as a medic in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the European theater where he earned the EuropeAfricaMiddle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. After the war, Pierre worked and retired from Coastal Construction in Baton Rouge.
Survivors include his daughter, Rose M. Burleigh and husband Charles of Sunset, LA daughterinlaw, Mary Lou Deville of Opelousas 14 grandchildren 22 great grandchildren and numerous greatgreat grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Amelie Guillory Martin parents, Duprie and Rosa Stelly Martin 3 sons, Harry Lee Deville and his wife Helen, Joseph Deville, Jr., John Tally Deville and his wife Betty a daughter, Ella Mae Hemel and her husband Paul a brother, Charlie Martin two sisters, Rose Mae Marcotte and Eula Andrus and a grandchild, Larry Deville.
Pallbearers will be Charles M. Burleigh, Chad Burleigh, Val Hemel, Bradley Zerangue, Neil Zerangue, Trent Hemel honorary pallbearers will be Charles Burleigh and Herbert Martin.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Louis Nix and the ICU nursing staff of Opelousas General.
Visiting will be held in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
