Phen "Hung" Van Trieu, a beloved husband, father, “Ong Ngoai,” brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away on November 1st, 2023. He was born on October 10, 1962, in Kien Giang, Vietnam. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will always be remembered for his kind heart, giving nature, and his ability to make everyone feel welcomed. He took care of everyone around him and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His generosity had no limits and this was seen through his selflessness. Hung's warm-heartedness touched the lives of many and his acts of kindness will forever be cherished and missed. He was our home, the place we all felt the safest.
In addition to his compassionate nature, Hung had a vibrant spirit, lived every day to the fullest, and never took a second for granted. You will always be greeted with the biggest smile on his face. His hobbies included gardening, spending time at the beach or near water, fishing, and scratching lottery tickets. He found the joys in the simpler things in life and it did not take much for him to smile and just be content. He was his happiest when he was surrounded by his family especially his children and grandchildren. As much happiness as they brought to him, he brought the same happiness to them.
Aside from his many amazing qualities, He was famous for his cooking. He always made sure that his family had a hot home cooked meal to come home to every night. His love was poured out into every meal he prepared. He thoroughly enjoyed having dinner together with the family and sharing conversations and laughter at the table. His famous dish that he was known for was his special goat curry. It was always highly requested at every family gathering and was everyone’s favorite.
Hung will always be remembered as a devoted family man. His pride and joy were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Xieu Nguyen. Their marriage exude unconditional love like no other. The bond they had showed daily and support for each other is unmatched. Their love and strength combined built the family they have today.
He is also survived by his daughters, Lyna Trieu Soileau and her husband Garrett Soileau, their kids Isaac and Khai, Tina Trieu and her husband Hoang Nguyen, their daughter Eliana, and also his sons Tommy Trieu and Anthony Trieu. Hung instilled his values of compassion and kindness into each one of them, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and meant the world to him. He showered them with so much affection and love. He made it a point to create priceless memories that will be treasured for generations to come. He cherished his role as a father and grandfather and celebrated every milestone and achievement with pride.
He is also survived by his father, Tai Tan Nguyen, brother, Dung Van Nguyen and his wife Bich-Thuy Nguyen; his sister, Anh-Ngoc Nguyen and her husband Van-Ton Nguyen, their kids Dang Thanh Nguyen, Hai Dang Nguyen, To-Nu Nguyen, Hai Au Nguyen, and Anna Nguyen; and a host of his and his wife’s aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he also loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother Van Thu Huynh, his grandfather Phat Tan Huynh, and his grandmother Bong Thi Tran.
A celebration of Hung's life will be held at the Skip Montet Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, November 10, 2023. The visitation will take place from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM to allow friends and loved ones an opportunity to pay their respects. Mass will take place at 6:00 PM.
On Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 AM, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Procession from LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas to St. Anthony Catholic Church will begin at 7:30 AM. After the service, Hung will be laid to rest at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge following the service. To follow, a celebration of life reception will be held at the Greenoaks Celebration Center honoring Hung Van Triêu.
Pallbearers will be Garrett Soileau, Hoang Nguyen, Hai Dang Nguyen, Hai Au Nguyen, Jimmy Uong, Denny Uong, Timothy Nguyen, and Francisco Nguyen.
Hung touched the lives of many through his acts of kindness and love. To know him, was to love him. He will be deeply missed but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As we say our final goodbyes, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the impact he had on those around him.
Hung will forever be remembered - a shining example of kindness, compassion, and selflessness.
