A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Percy Fred Credeur, Sr. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Opelousas. The interment will be in the St. Landry Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Credeurs nephew, the Reverend John Pardue will be the celebrant of the mass.
A reception will follow immediately after at the Indian Hills Country Club.
Mr. Credeur, age 92, a native of Cankton, La and a life long resident of Opelousas passed away Friday January 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Opelousas General Health Systems. He was employed by Lafleur Buick during the early 40s and established Percys Repair shop in 1948 that he owned an operated for 35 years. He was a St Landry Parish school bus driver, bus no. 20, for 20 years before retiring.
He also served 2 terms as an Opelousas City Alderman District D during the 70s.
Additionally, he was a graduate of OHS at the age of 57. Percy took many courses from General Motors specializing in Buick maintenance.
Percy, the king of sac a lait , loved fishing in the Henderson Swamp, Bayou Portage and many other fishing areas around the Acadiana area. He was a member of a square dancing group for a number of years. Additionally, he was the Man of The Year at AIC school in 1965, now Opelousas Catholic.
Percy served in the Navy during World War II in the Palaus Islands while preparing for the invasion of Japan and was a First Class motor machinist. He also served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged July 18, 1956. Additionally, he served the Opelousas community as a volunteer Fireman for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Brasseux Credeur and Leon Credeur, first wife Agnes Marie Pitre Credeur, two sisters Cecile Benoit, and Hilda Boudreaux.
He is survived by his current wife Eldine Jagneaux Credeur, two sons, Percy Fred Credeur, Jr. and his wife Chris, Joseph Marx Credeur and his wife Kristi, two granddaughters, Channing Elizabeth Credeur and Kingsley Marie Credeur, two grandsons, John Christopher Credeur and Adam Martin Credeur, and one sister Hazel Credeur.
Visitation will be on Sunday January 3, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
