Opelousas, LA - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce that President and CEO of KSLO Broadcasting, Co., Inc., Penny Allegood Smith, 53, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at 10:45 a.m. after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, La. Reverend Miller McClure and Reverend Joel Harris will officiate the services.
Penny leaves behind her husband of 35 years, Carroll E. Smith, one son, Jeff, and his wife, Nicola, of Ruston; one daughter, Christen, and her husband, Nicholas Patin of Opelousas. She was preceded in death by her father, Wandell Lloyd Allegood. Mr. Allegood was known to his KSLO listening audience as Johnny Wright.
Penny Allegood Smith served as a Board Member of the OpelousasSt. Landry Chamber of Commerce and CASA. She was a former member of the Rotary Club of Opelousas. Penny enjoyed cooking, homemaking, photography and computers.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will re-open at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 until service time.
