Paul Gus Dupre passed away in his home on February 24th, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by his wife of 65 years and his three daughters.
The visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. The Rosary will be led by a long-time friend, Clifford J. Hebert, starting at 10:15 AM. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass at 11AM. Rite of Committal and burial will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Gus was born to Talbot and Lelma Dupre of Plaisance on January 28th, 1937. He received a degree from business school that led to various jobs throughout his career. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the National Guard, taught dance, and started his own business. Gus was one of the founders and builders of Belmont Academy that opened in 1971. He was a devout Catholic, volunteering his time as a eucharistic minister, trustee, and board member of several church committees. He was an avid gardener, wine maker, square dancer, and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered for never meeting a stranger and being one of the happiest individuals you will ever cross paths with. A kind, gentle soul who was always smiling. He was continuously offering to say a rosary for you or someone in need.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Ryder Dupre, and his daughters Monica Dupre (Michael H. Dupre) of Houston, Texas, Beth Adams (Ben Adams) of Opelousas, and Leslie Dupre of Opelousas. He is survived by his grandchildren Christian Adams, Emily Dupre, and Sean Dupre. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Morgan Adams, his parents, Talbot and Lelma, his two brothers, Larry and Charlie, and three sisters, Juanita, Jackie, and Bonnie.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and caregivers of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care. Their love, compassion, and support are truly a gift from God and a blessing to families in need.
