Norma Jean Fontenot

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Father Ken Domingue officiating. Visitation will begin from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, with a Rosary being recited at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Norma Jean Fontenot, born on November 23, 1944, in Lawtell, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, La. 

Norma was known for her generous spirit and unwavering faith as a dedicated parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, Louisiana.

Norma was a talented seamstress, whose craftsmanship brought joy to many. In addition to her sewing skills, she found great pleasure in camping, riding motorcycles, and cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. 

She leaves behind a loving family, including her step-sons, Vernal Fontenot and wife, Connie, of Opelousas, La., Kenneth Fontenot of Opelousas, La. and Ricky Fontenot of Opelousas, La., Norma also cherished her step-daughters, Deborah Lambert and husband, Joe, Baton Rouge, La., Marie Fontenot of St. Martinville, La., and Darlene Hoffman and husband, Kenneth, of Baton Rouge, La.; her brother, Terry Thibodeaux, of Opelousas, La., along with 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, who will fondly remember her nurturing presence in their lives.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Emery Joseph Fontenot; her parents, Elliot Bertrand and Marie Godeau Bertrand; her brother, Larry Thibodeaux; and her sister, Loretta Vicknair.

Her legacy of love and kindness will remain in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
