Norma Evans

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Norma Joan "Jo" Meche Evans, 84, on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 12:05 P.M., at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Krotz Springs, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Father Jason Vidrine will conduct the services.

Mrs. Jo, a lifelong resident of Krotz Springs, passed away at her residence on Saturday surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Jo worked at Krotz Springs Elementary School for 33 years as a dedicated Teacher Aide. She was referred to by many of her students as the "Walking Encyclopedia" due to her love of reading, learning and teaching. She served as a Catechism teacher and Lector at St. Anthony's for many years.

She is survived by her son James R. "Jimmy" Evans and his wife Debra, her 4 daughters: Lucinda "Cindy" Ellis, Nyssa and her husband Eddie Godwin, Sabrina and her husband Keith Ardoin all of Krotz Springs and Danica Evans of Port Barre as well as her 13 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by, one sister, Myrtle Meche of Krotz Springs and her brother-in-law, Charles Evans and his wife Matsey (Vincent) of Bossier City. She leaves behind her many special nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own, and her special Sunday Afternoon Coffee Group: Betty Artigue, Juanita Reed, and Jim Breaux.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. "Bobby" Evans, JR, her daughter-in-law Madalene Jarreau Evans, her granddaughter Miranda K. Evans, her parents Raoul and Olivia (Bryant) Meche, one brother Clovis Meche and wife, Gayle Poe, her sisters: Sylvia Senette and husband Matthew, Jeanette Norris, Patricia LaHaye and husband Elmer and Gayle R. Simmons and husband Nolan.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Krotz Springs on Monday, January 25, 2016 from 10 A.M. to 10 P.M. and will reopen Tuesday from 7A.M. until time of the services. A rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. on Monday.

The family asks that donations be made to the Shriner's Hospital, which their mother was a patient of for a year as a child or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in her name.
