Nolton Lavergne

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Nolton J. Lavergne, age 77, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 15, 2011 in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will be the celebrant of the Mass.

Mr. Lavergne, who was a native of Church Point and a resident of Opelousas, died peacefully at his residence with his family by his side, on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

Nolton was the owner and operator of Lavergnes Tin Shop for over 30 years. He was a past Boy Scout leader of troop 31, a lifetime member of the Beef masters Breeders International, Louisiana Cattlemens Association, Gulf Coast Cattlemans Association. Mr. Lavergne was a founding member of the Bayou Rouge Hunting Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He was a hard working, proud man who loved spending time with his family, on the farm, in his garden and with his cattle.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elsie Mae Deville Lavergne of Opelousas daughter, Elizabeth Soileau and husband Carter of Central son, Jody Lavergne and wife Jeanine of Opelousas brother, Freeman Lavergne and wife Clara of Carencro sister, Theresa Richard of Bridge City, TX 4 grandchildren, Ida Renee Fauver and husband Kenneth, Eric Shannon Soileau, Nolton Kyle Lavergne, and Hailey Jo Lavergne 4 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ida Lejeune Lavergne his stepmother, Helen Nan Fisher Lavergne his brother, Hubert Lavergne and wife Bernice sisters, Nita Vidrine and husband Gerald and Linda Miller and husband Ashton, Sr. and a brotherinlaw, Melvin Richard.

Visiting will be observed in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Monday, February 14, 2011 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m., and will reopen on Tuesday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Monday by Reverend Ted Broussard.
