Nolan Stephens

Opelousas - Funeral services for Mr. Nolan Joseph Stephens, age 91, will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, La. followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, La.

The Reverend Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.

Mr. Stephens, who was a native of Washington and resident of Evergreen, La., died on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, La.

Mr. Stephens served his country in the 105th Army Air Force during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre where he received the American Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. Mr. Stephens was a farmer and was later employed by General Mills until he retired.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his son, Kenneth Stephens and his wife, Brenda, of Opelousas, La.; his daughters, Faye Stephens Chenevert and her husband, Gerald, of Cottonport, La. and Pamela Stephens of Pineville, La. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Kimberly Bordelon and her husband, Chad; his grandson, Christopher Stephens and a great-grandchild, Peyton Bordelon.

Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Fontenot Stephens; his brothers, Alfred, Earnest, John, Alex, Pierre, William and Tommy Stephens; his sisters, Amy Ryder; Louisa Oliver and Pauline Pitre. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Eloise Sylvester Stephens.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 11, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will re-open on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
