Nita Barousse

Opelousas - Funeral services for Mrs. Victor Barousse, Sr., the former Nita Perkins, age 99, will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, followed by interment in the Holy Sepulcher in Opelousas. Monsignor Louis Melancon will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.

Mrs. Barousse, a resident of Opelousas died at 5:43 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home. She was an elementary school teacher where she taught at Morrow Elementary, AIC and Lawtell Elementary. She was a member of the St. Landry Catholic Church and was active in the Peoples Program. Mrs. Barousse will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her two sons, Victor H. Barousse, Jr. and wife, Mona, of River Ridge, La. and James L. Barousse and his wife, Judy, of Pensacola, Florida. She is also survived by one brother, John Ray Perkins of Opelousas, La; one sister, Eva Perkins Kollar of Riverside, California. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Monique Cobb; Michael Jarret Barousse; Michael and Christine Murphy and four great-grandchildren, Jace and Brandon Cobb and Jennifer and Gracie Barousse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Barousse, Sr.; a son, Michael John Barousse; her parents, James Austin Perkins and Eva Guidry Perkins; her brothers, Harry, Douglas, Earl and James A. Perkins, Jr.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
