Nelson Paul Bourque

Nelson Paul Bourque, age, 81, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.  He was born on November 29, 1942, in Opelousas, Louisiana, and lived a fulfilled life filled with love, dedication, and service.

Nelson served as a fireman for nine years for the Opelousas Fire Department. His commitment to protecting the community was admirable. Additionally, Nelson worked as a logistics coordinator offshore, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his work.  He also loved to sacalait fish and hunting anything in season.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nelson was deeply cherished by his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to Gloria Joubert Bourque and a loving father to his son, Edward Paul Bourque and wife Deneen Speyrer Bourque; his daughters, Tammy Bourque Richard and husband, Charlie Richard, Valerie Bourque Walls and husband Troy Walls and Brandy Bourque; his sister, Stella Bourque Munnerlyn and husband, Robert "Bob" Munnerlyn.  He is also survived by his brother, Robert Bourque and wife, Lil.  Nelson's boundless love extended to his grandchildren Samantha, Jessica, Holly, Michael, Kelley, Kelsey as well as his nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Gervis Bourque and Evelyn Chautin Bourque; his brother, Larry Bourque and his grandson, Charles “CJ” Richard, Jr.

Nelson's passing leaves a void in our hearts but also an opportunity to remember the joy he brought into our lives. He will forever be remembered for his big smile, generous heart, unwavering determination in serving others and his warm affection towards those he held dear.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, February 16th, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM with a time of sharing immediately following the rosary.  

Nelson will forever remain in our hearts as we cherish the memories he created with us. May his soul find eternal peace and may his family and loved ones find solace in their fondest memories of him.
