Opelousas Funeral services for Neill Elbert Edwards will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Opelousas, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park. The Reverend Perry Hubbs, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Opelousas, will conduct the service.

Neill Elbert Edwards, age 67, who was born in Wichita Falls, TX and was a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

Mr. Edwards proudly served his family, his community and his country. He served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army and he continued to serve during his 31 year career with the Unites States Government. He was a member of the Opelousas Sunrise Rotary and he was an avid cyclist. Neill was a strong, loving, direct and witty man who will be greatly missed by his loving family and dear friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Phyllis Deary Edwards of Opelousas sons, Justin Edwards of Opelousas and Jeremy Edwards and his wife Stephanie of Pineville, LA a daughter, Jill Edwards Conner and husband Jarrod of Houston, TX brother, Johnny P. Edwards, Jr. of Surry, Maine sister, Lisa Dianne Edwards of Graham, TX six grandchildren, Aidan Zoe Edwards, Jacob Neill Edwards, Madison Nicole Edwards, Mallory Faye Edwards, Elliot Josslyn Conner, and Edward Glen Conner.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie P. Edwards and Fern Ozell McNeill Edwards.

Pallbearers will be Robb Edwards, Peter Edwards, Clint Deary, Casey Deary, Craig Deary, Jarrod Conner, Tim Deary, and Joe Hidalgo.

Visiting will be held in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.
